Safe School Information

Hello and welcome to Sandpiper Elementary School! We hope that you will take the time to ensure that your child is safe during arrival and dismissal times. There will be nearly 500 students arriving and leaving school everyday. If necessary, please remind your caretakers who drop-off or pick-up your children about our safety rules for all students.a

Parking & Loading

Please remember the following:

  • No parking in front of the school on either side of the driveway  (M-F 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM;
W 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM; M, T, Th, F 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM).

  • All drivers must remain behind the steering wheel of the car. All students must exit on the right hand side of the curb. No hand-held mobile phone use while waiting your turn in line. Keep traffic flowing, use the left lane to circulate when picking up your children in the afternoon. Right turns are restricted from the parking lot in the morning and afternoon.

  • Do not use parking lot to drop off or pick up your child. Classroom volunteers must use the available parking spaces in the parking lot. Redwood City Police may ticket cars parked along the curb in front of the school if there are parking spaces in the parking lot. Do not park in designated spaces for PTA Auction winners. No parking on Egret Lane – you must remain in your car at morning drop off or afternoon pick up.

Safety Tips

  • Be a Role Model When Driving. Remember 25mph is the speed limit, not the minimum,on Redwood Shores Parkway. Be mindful, take it slow, and look out for pedestrians and bicylists in crosswalks.
  • Look for traffic from both directions, especially when crossing on the trail.
  • Respect and obey the crossing guard.
  • Do not jaywalk across
Redwood Shores Parkway for your safety and that of others
  • Walk bikes and scooters while on campus. Slow down / dismount when near pedestrians and call out when passing on trails.
  • Protect your head! Always wear a helmet biking, skating, or scooting.

A reminder that dogs are not allowed on the school property for several reasons:

         1) we have children with severe allergies to animal fur

         2) we have children who are fearful of dogs

         3) we have the potential of a dog fight where a child could be injured.

We ask your cooperation in keeping your dogs away from the school if you decide to walk your pet when you drop off or pick up your child.
